Universitatea de Artă şi Design din Cluj-Napoca (UAD) este continuatoarea tradiţiilor primei instituţii de învăţământ superior artistic din Cluj, înfiinţată în anul 1926, a Institutului de Arte Plastice “Ion Andreescu” şi a Academiei de Arte Vizuale din Cluj-Napoca, precum şi a tradiţiilor de educaţie artistică existente la Cluj-Napoca încă de la jumătatea secolului al XVIII-lea.
UAD funcţionează în baza Constituţiei, legislaţiei din domeniul educaţiei şi a celorlalte norme legale din România şi din Uniunea Europeană. Denumirea oficială este: Universitatea de Artă şi Design din Cluj-Napoca. Denumirea în limba engleză este:University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca. A fost reorganizată în baza Hotărârii nr. 1137 din 6 noiembrie 1950. Sediul său este Piaţa Unirii nr. 31, 400098 Cluj-Napoca.
UAD este instituţie de învăţământ superior de stat, cu personalitate juridică, caracter nonprofit, de interes public, apolitică, independentă de religii şi ideologii. UAD este universitate acreditată de ARACIS cu calificativul Grad de încredere ridicat. Sunt înregistrate la OSIM: Denumirea, emblema şi siglele. Pentru îndeplinirea obiectivelor ce decurg din misiunea asumată, Universitatea de Artă şi Design din Cluj-Napoca cuprinde următoarele componente organizatorice: facultăţi, departamente, centre de cercetare şi laboratoare, centre de consultanţă, studiouri şi ateliere artistice, centre pentru formarea continuă a resurselor umane, case de creaţie, structuri pentru documentare, pentru asigurarea serviciilor financiar-contabile, resurse umane, secretariat, administrativ, tehnic, social, precum şi altele.
În cadrul Facultăţii de Arte Plastice funcţionează departamentele:
- Departamentul Pictură,
- Departamentul Sculptură,
- Departamentul Grafică,
- Departamentul Foto-video,
- Departamentul Conservare-restaurare.
În cadrul Facultăţii de Arte Decorative şi Design funcţionează departamentele:
- Departamentul Ceramică,
- Departamentul Arte textile-design textil,
- Departamentul Modă-design vestimentar,
- Departamentul Design,
- Departamentul de discipline teoretice.
Departamentul de Specialitate cu Profil Psihopedagogic desfăşoară programe de formare psihopedagogică în vederea certificării competenţelor pentru profesia didactică şi este direct subordonat rectorului.
The University of Art and Design of Cluj – Napoca carries on the traditions of the first artistic higher education institution of Cluj, founded in 1926, of the Institute of Fine Arts “Ion Andreescu” and of the Academy of Visual Arts of Cluj – Napoca, as well as the traditions of artistic education that have existed in Cluj-Napoca since the half of the eighteenth century. UAD functions on the basis of Constitution, the legislation in the field of education and the other legal norms in Romania and in European Union. The official denomination is: the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca. The denomination in English language is: the University of Art and Design Cluj – Napoca. It was reorganized based on the Decision no. 1137 of 6th November 1950. The office is Piata Unirii nr. 31, Cluj – Napoca. UAD is a higher education state institution with legal personality, non-profit character, of public interest, apolitical, independent from religions and ideologies. UAD is accredited university by ARACIS with the qualification High degree of confidence. The denomination, the emblem and the logos are registered with the State Office for Patents and Trademarks. For the fulfilment of the objectives resulting from the mission undertaken, the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca comprises the following organisational components: faculties, departments, research centres and laboratories, consultancy centres, studios and artistic workshops, centres for life-long training of human resources, creation houses, structures for documentation, for the assurance of financial accounting services, human resources, secretariat, administrative, technical and social departments, and many other. In the Faculty of Fine Arts the following departments function: 1.Fine Arts Department (Painting), 2. Fine Arts Department (Sculpture) – Conservation and restoration 3. Fine Arts Department (Graphics) - Fine Arts (Photography-computerized video-processing of image) – Pedagogy of Fine and decorative arts. In the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Design the following departments function: 1. Design Department, 2. Ceramics Department – glass - metal / textile arts –textile design / decorative arts (fashion- clothing design), 3.Department of theoretical subjects. The Specialty Department with Psycho-pedagogic Profile carries out psycho-pedagogic training programs in view of certification of competences for the teaching profession and is directly subordinated to the rector.
