Cluj-Napoca - University of Art and Design of Cluj-Napoca
Brief History

University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca was established in 1926 under the name of the School of Fine Arts, and included two sections: paintings and sculpture. The school goes through several phases, the first being between 1926 - 1933, followed by temporary removal from Timisoara (1933 - 1949), caused by the Second World War. Returning to school was made Cluj in 1950, becoming the Institute of Fine Arts "Ion Andreescu" and comprising the following specializations: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Ceramics, Glass, Textiles and Design Arts.

In 1990 the school is named the Academy of Visual Arts "Ioan Andreescu" and start making compatible curricula and university management with those of similar institutions in Europe. This has led to widening the area of specializations and lines of research by setting up polling Photo-Video-image processing, pedagogy - and decorative arts, Conservation and Restoration.

In 2001 the school decided to change the name of Art and Design University Cluj-Napoca. Also from this period, the school policy is radically changed: international partnerships is important, their purpose being to promote mobility of students and teachers to enhance professional training of graduates and improve the quality of learning.

University Structure

University of Art and Design in Cluj is a public institution of higher education art. Being under the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth in Romania, operating within the national laws and regulations specific to public education.

Currently, the university operates in accordance with the Bologna Agreement, developing an educational process for three cycles, ie bachelor, master and doctorate.

University of Art and Design has two faculties which include nine sections, the Department of theoretical courses and teacher training department:

1. FACULTY OF FINE ARTS with the following undergraduate programs of study:
          * Fine arts (painting), during three years of studies (60 credits per year), education day
          * Fine arts (sculpture), during three years of studies (60 credits per year), education day
          * Fine Arts (graphics), while studying three years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Visual Arts (photography, computer image videoprocesarea) during three years of studies (60 credits per year), education day
          * Conservation and restoration studies last three years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Pedagogy and decorative arts, period of study 3 years (60 credits per year), education day

In this faculty are organized and university master programs. These are:
          Fine arts (painting), while studying two years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Fine arts (sculpture), during two years of studies (60 credits per year), education day
          * Fine Arts (graphics), while studying two years (60 credits per year), education day
          Visual Arts (photography, computer image videoprocesarea) during two years of studies (60 credits per year), education day
          * Conservation and restoration studies last two years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Pedagogy and decorative arts, while studying two years (60 credits per year), education day
          Illustration and animation studies during two years (60 credits per year), education day

2. FACULTY OF DECORATIVE ARTS AND DESIGN following undergraduate programs of study:
          * Ceramics - Glass - Metal, studies last three years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Textile Arts - textile design, study duration 3 years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Fashion - Fashion Design, studies last three years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Design studies last three years (60 credits per year), education day

In this faculty are organized and university master programs. These are:
          Ceramics - Glass, studies last two years (60 credits per year), education day
          Textile design, study duration 2 years (60 credits per year), education day
          * Fashion Design, while studying two years (60 credits per year), education day
          Design studies last two years (60 credits per year), education day

Department of theoretical courses (both university serving students, providing theoretical training in areas related to artistic profile).

3. Department of teacher training - completion of this department provides graduates the right to hold teaching positions in pre-compulsory school, secondary, and higher

Doctoral Studies - the academic year 2003 - 2004, University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca and offers doctoral cycle. Doctorate in fine arts and decorative arts - based on scientific research and artistic creation of value - aims to produce specialized research under the guidance of a teacher, or a Senior Researcher I, Scientific leader endorsement. PhD thesis concludes with a sustained public. Ph.D. in fine arts and decorative confirmed by the Council for Titles, Diplomas and Certificates.

Facilities for education, research and other professional activities

University has thirteen buildings which are:
a. Meeting related specializations and curricula
b. Library
c. laboratories
d. artistic workshops and research
e. micro workshops, maintenance workshops
f. exhibition halls
g. storerooms and warehouses for raw materials to finished products of artistic creation (the documentary form of institution)
h. accommodation for university students and foreign students who receive grants for Erasmus mobility, CEEPUS, Fulbright
i. spaces used for administrative purposes (offices).

Restoration of the university library was a priority for our institution in recent years. Bibliographic Fund has been expanded considerably, mainly aiming to purchase the most relevant recent appearances in the field. In this way, we believe that currently the University of Art and Design Library is one of the best equipped in the country, able to adequately support the training of students.

Matthew House Gallery is both the UAD as a springboard for students and master UAD as exhibition space for various projects of institutions or individuals dedicated to the contemporary art world. Matthew House Gallery operates as a commercial gallery whose purpose is to provide university students and not just an unconventional exhibition space and easily accessible to the public.

Collaborations and international programs

International cooperation is an essential component of institutional development policies advocated by UAD. In this regard, the University of Art and Design has established relationships with various prestigious institutions:
